In THE GUTTER, when frequently laid-off Walt (Shameik Moore) lands a job bartending and shoe-picking at his local bowling alley AlleyCatz, he feels like he’s finally found a home. When money troubles threaten AlleyCatz, Walt is pressured by former pro bowler and current drinking champion Skunk (D’Arcy Carden) to embrace his role as the greatest bowler ever put on this earth. While Walt’s love of big checks and no-nonsense style of play dominates the pro circuit, his detractors, including ratings-obsessed news anchor Angelo Powers and recently retired bowling legend Linda “The Crusher” Curson (Susan Sarandon), furiously try to extinguish Walt’s flame before it burns too brightly.
