American (English) remake of the French series HPI (2021)
Scenario
Follow Morgan, a single mother of three, and how her extraordinary mind enables her to help solve a crime as she organizes evidence in her turn as a cleaner at the police department. Despite his extremely high IQ, excellent memory, and extensive knowledge of the mystery, Morgan makes a series of basic mistakes in the law that anyone who has ever watched a TV legal show would not know to make.
Remake of HPI (2021)
In the first episode, for example, he retrieves a document from a locked safe at the suspected victim’s law firm that would never be admissible in court—illegally obtained evidence. Nor could it be used to obtain other evidence—violating the legal doctrine of “fruit of the poisonous tree.” In Episode 2, he has to be reminded to wear gloves before handling evidence at the crime scene, and in Episode 3, he removes all documented evidence from the police station, completely breaking the chain of custody and making anything he removed inadmissible in court.
The original French version, Haut Potential Intellectuel, was much smarter
The first episode was basically the same as this first episode, except they left out the first part stating that he has no patience with the people he talks to. This was her job in addition to working as a cleaner at the police department.
He gets fired from that job because he doesn’t respect the customer
After that missing scene, the end of the first episode was basically the same. The main difference is the main character, Morgan, who is much more eccentric than depicted in the American version.
After watching the original version, it’s very hard not to compare
This could be just as entertaining because I like Kaitlin Olsen. I hope that his character in The Mick, which was irreverent and funny, will come out in future episodes.
